Hello, let me start by saying thank you! Thank you for being here on our website and allowing us to steal a moment from your day to share our stories. In 1990, I found myself a young first time mother blessed with a beautiful baby boy-- your masked hero himself, James Roy Swiger, aka JR. Every part of this new chapter came as a learning curve. Like any mother, you gather guidance where you can and you learn through loving them, rock them to sleep at night, and you pray. Pray that God will make you all they need you to be, and when you find yourself facing adversity, you modify and overcome.Along the way, it became more and more evident that the world, however, would not always strive to modify. If your baby couldn't fit into the boxes society offered, he would have to miss out. The heartbreak of thinking he wouldn't get the same opportunities or the same respect and support was agonizing. I prayed that God would surround me with people who could help me pave the way for him.He answered my prayers in abundance, starting with JR's baby sister, Reno Sadarah. The bond the two of them share goes far beyond siblings. They are each others keepers. I was so nervous that JR would consume all my time and Reno would not thrive It was as if God giggled and said, "trust Me, this is all very intentional." JR tried harder to keep up with Reno at every turn. He began to excel in his physical therapy. And Reno, trying to match all JR was learning, was up and walking by 8 months old. They pushed and carried each other all at the same time. All these years later , I am still in awe of the relationship that they share. Now, as adults, there are still so many circumstances where JR doesn't fit into society's box. The bottom line is society's boxes need to be changed. So that everyone can fit. It may not seem life altering to some people-- A simple halloween dance. But for these children who want the opportunity to experience the simplicity of being dressed up and pretending to be who or whatever their imaginations can muster, it is pretty damn significant. And that brings us here, to the Masked Heroes Spooktacular. The place where each of you can become another part of a young mother's answered prayers, to modify and overcome. God has indeed surrounded me with a team, a "crew" if you will. And together, we will do our absolute best to ensure that, for at least one night, for at least a few hours, the boundaries blur. And there are no boxes to fill at all.
